WRITE ABOUT WHAT IT MIGHT BE LIKE IF YOU WERE SOMEONE'S SHADOW

 

SHADOW

Hi there! My name is…huh, I guess I really don’t know my name. I am just a shadow that follows this kid around. I go to school, I play and my human sits on my lap an awful lot. I wish I had a true voice so I could ask what my purpose is here on this earth. I don’t protect my human, although other shadows do if he were to stumble upon one that belonged to someone who would hurt him. I don’t play with my human, it’s not like I’m his invisible friend. Now those lucky bastards have a purpose!

 

I guess someday someone may answer the questions I have in my head every day. But for now, I will enjoy jumping rope and sliding down the slide with my kid on my lap. And someday I will accompany him on long walks with his true love. Well, you see there, that is another question. Will I too fall in love with his lover’s shadow? Will his kids’ shadows be our kids? What a life! Living in silence with people I’m supposed to love.

 

I guess there is only one question left. Who in the hell am I talking to? No one can hear my thoughts. But I feel better ‘talking’. It’s not so lonely. And perhaps there is someone else out there who can hear me. Maybe other shadows…I’ve never tried to talk to another shadow. Oh, now I can’t wait for school to end so I can try to talk to my human’s best friend’s shadow on the bus. Maybe I can truly live after all!
