Sweet was the only word Jackson could think of to describe Deborah, the new girl in school. Well, that was the only word he’d been able to think of until the school creep Jeffrey had dunked her braid in ranch. Boy could that girl swear and punch and probably bite too. He’d pulled her off of the poor kid before she could get her teeth into him - or get caught by a teacher. Luckily it had only been the three of them left at the outdoor lunch area as he’d been stupid enough to do the dipping right as the bell rang.
“You better not tell anybody, Jeffrey. Or I’ll tell them a girl almost beat you up,” Jackson said seriously.
Jeffrey just nodded and ran inside.
Deborah was still being held by Jackson when a voice made her jump. “Hey, you two.”
“Whoa Tommy, don’t sneak up on people like that,” Jackson said turning to look at his best friend.
“Uh…sorry man. I guess I was just shocked to see Sweet Stuff there acting like a wild animal.”
“Sweet Stuff?” they both echoed.
“It kind of fits,” Tommy chuckled. “We all know she’s sweet and now we know she’s also…stuff. I’m assuming you don’t want anyone to know about this tough side.”
“You got that right,” Deborah said, pulling away from Jackson. “The last thing I need is to be suspended in my third week of sixth grade.”
